Anna Geary, the legendary Cork camogie player, is mourning the loss of her brother, Thomas, who passed away at the age of 34 on Wednesday, November 15, at University Hospital Limerick.
Thomas, known for his passion for farming and travel, hailed from a farming family in Milford, a rural part of North Cork. Originally from North Cork, Thomas had also traveled to Australia and New Zealand.
Thomas is survived by his mother, Ellen Ann, fiancée Mary Ita, sister Anna, Anna’s husband, Kevin, their infant Ronan, as well as friends, neighbors, and those in the local GAA circles. He was set to marry his long-term partner.
The funeral, scheduled for tomorrow, is expected to be attended by the entire town to pay their respects. Thomas’s fiancée Mary Ita Murphy, mother Ellen Ann, sister Anna, nephew Ronan, brother-in-law Kevin, uncles, aunts, cousins, relatives, neighbors, and friends will all deeply miss him.
The Milford Community Cork Facebook page, along with expressing their “deepest sympathy,” included an Irish phrase meaning “May his holy soul be on the right side of God” in their message to Thomas’s family. The post conveyed profound sympathies to the family and friends of Thomas Geary and Murphy on his demise, expressing hope for his peace. A h’anam dílis a raibh ar dheis Dé.
According to CorkBeo, Anna shared on social media last year that her father and brother had been her biggest supporters and inspirations throughout her career. She had also mentioned the passing of her beloved father, adding, “Rest easy, Dad.”
Thomas’s funeral will take place on Saturday at 1 pm in the Church of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Milford, followed by burial at Dromcollogher Cemetery. The entire community is expected to attend in large numbers to show their respect.
The tragic death of Thomas Geary comes after the loss of Anna’s father Michael Geary in March 2022 due to a brief illness. The famous GAA family has now faced two heartbreaking tragedies. Thoughts and Condolences to the family and community in this devastating time, Rest in Peace Thomas.
