Football World mourns the loss of one of the oldest supporters of Everton, Billy Ingham.
Billy Ingham, best known as ‘Billy the Blue’ in football and the Everton community, passed away at the age of 96. He was one of the oldest and most enthusiastic supporters of Everton.
What happened to Billy Ingham?
Billy Ingham, a lifelong supporter of Everton and the new Barclays Premier League ad, passed away on January 12, 2024. He was 96 years old at the time of his death. The Everton FC announced the sad news of his passing in a post on their social media, which read,
“One of our oldest supporters has sadly passed away at the age of 96. Billy Ingham, a Goodison regular since the days of Dixie Dean, captured the nation’s hearts in a TV advert where he enthused about his everlasting love of the Blues.
Billy had been a Blues fan for over eight decades and had never missed a home game. He was known for his unwavering dedication to the sport, leaving the nation with countless candid memories of unconditional support for the Blues.
Who was Billy Ingham?
Billy Ingham was a devoted Everton fan who followed the Blues for over eighty years. His passion and enthusiasm for the game earned him the nickname, ‘Billy The Blue.’ Billy was a regular at Goodison since Dixie Dean’s time. He became endeared to millions after starring in a TV commercial in which he confessed his everlasting love for the Blues.
Billy’s unwavering enthusiasm for Everton FC led him to star in a major television commercial. He was selected from millions of supporters to appear in a television commercial for Barclays, a Premier League sponsor.
In the advertisement, Billy reminisces on his match day journey from his home in Kirkby, narrating his passion for the game from the days of Dixie Dean to the day he is no more. He grew up idolizing the Blues over his Liverpool-supporting father and remained committed to supporting the Blues to the very end. He expressed gratitude for being selected to star in the commercial.
“To be an Evertonian and to be shown watching Everton in an advert about the club is something that makes me proud. I’m so proud about the club and I’m made up to be on television. It’s so exciting. I’ll never forget it. I will be absolutely thrilled,” said Billy.
