Fatima Sydow a South African best-selling cookbook author and celebrated television cooking host passed away after battling with cancer.
According to reports, Fatima Sydow passed away on December 20, 2023, after a long battle with soft tissue sarcoma cancer. Her death was announced through her official Facebook post by her family with profound sadness stating;
“It is with deep sadness that we, the Sydow Family, announce the passing of our beloved sister, Fatima Sydow, she has left an indelible mark on the culinary world., she passed away peacefully earlier today at Vincent Pallotti Hospital in Cape Town, after battling soft tissue sarcoma since 2020. She was surrounded by her immediate family.”
Fatima Sydow Cooks, the official Facebook page of Fatima has released her funeral details through a post with a statement; Janazah/Funeral arrangements for our beloved sister and friend Fatima Sydow. Her Namaz-e-Janazah will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Taronga Road Masjid Crawford at 11 am.

Fatima Sydow is a famous South African cookbook author and television cooking host. She is known for her friendly demeanor and ‘bubbly’ personality. She is one of the most celebrated cooking show hosts and best-selling cookbook authors in South Africa. She shared her recipes, deeply rooted in her love for her heritage and traditions. She takes great pride in her culture and crafts traditional recipes with her personal twists, which won the hearts of her audience.
What happened to Fatima Sydow?
Fatima Sydow was diagnosed with cancer in December 2020. She bravely battled with terminal disease and shared her journey of recovery and remission with her followers on her social media. She initially shared her happiness when her chemotherapy worked and her health improved.
During these challenging times, she continued to work and released her latest cookbook, “My Story, My Heritage,” earlier this year. The book reached no.1 bestseller status after one week of its launch.
On July 30, 2023, she shared the devastating news that her cancer had returned, and it was a soft-tissue sarcoma, a rare and aggressive type of cancer in stage 4. She said her chemotherapy had stopped working, and the tumor had started growing again, only this time she had run out of options.
Despite her condition, she expressed her gratitude towards life and bravely embraced her fate, acknowledging countless moments of mercy life gave her. She vowed to live her remaining days to the fullest, spend time with her loved ones, and cherish Mother Nature.
“This journey has been a roller coaster of a ride… Emotionally, mentally, and physically… But I can’t say it enough…I am so grateful for everything and all the love and support. Alghamdullilah.”
