Giovanna Canonici was a native of Brazil. She was an international student at Columbia College as a scientific research fellow to pursue her immense passion and curiosity for astronomy, rocketry, and space science, as described by Dean Sorett in the email.
She was a dedicated student who ‘hoped to use science to improve humanity.’ Her dedication led her to join Columbia Space Initiative, a student group focused on aerospace science, engineering, and outreach. Giovanna’s advisor shared that she hoped to make connections and collaborate with scientists worldwide to improve the world. He said, “Giovanna’s passion for science and humanity manifested in her curiosity, kindness, and empathy.”
