Jamarcus Ellis, a former Indiana University basketball player, died in a tragic accident. He was 38 years old. His sudden, unexpected death has left the community shocked and family and friends mourning.
What happened to Jamarcus Ellis?
Former Westing High School basketball star Jamarcus Ellis died in a deadly single-vehicle crash that happened on the West Side near the Pilsen area Friday morning. His vehicle slammed into a pillar of viaduct, leaving him fatally injured.
He was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries. The 38-year-old was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The Police and Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating the incident to learn more about the circumstances that led to the deadly crash.
Who was Jamarcus Ellis?
Jamarcus Ellis was a talented basketball player. He was a skilled athlete and a beloved member of the community. He graduated from Westinghouse High School and played on the varsity basketball team.
He began his successful journey in 2004 when the Sun-Times included him in their First Team All-State, placing him right next to renowned basketball figures like former NBA player Shaun Livingston and present Duke head Coach Jon Scheyer.
The 6 feet five inches tall athlete helped Westinghouse nab the City Championship title during his senior year. He continued to dazzle his fans with city and state victories during his sophomore year and proved his athletic prowess in junior college. He represented Indiana University in the 2007-2008 season.
Ellis, affectionately called ‘Tone Tone’ by his loved ones, concluded his career at Oklahoma City University in his final year. He continued to serve the community by working as a paraprofessional at a school in Chicago’s Western suburbs.
