Apostle Joe Kayo, the founder of Deliverance Church in both Kenya and Uganda, died on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at the age of 86.

Who was Apostle Joe Kayo?

Apostle Kayo was a spiritual leader and founder of Deliverance Church in Kenya and Uganda. He was born in Kisii District, Nyanza province in Kenya, on May 5, 1937. He founded Deliverance Church, a charismatic and indigenous ministry that spread in Uganda and Zambia. He also founded Juba Pentecostal Church and Family of God Churches across Zimbabwe and influenced many ministries in Kenya. He authored over 25 books on life experiences.

He began with humble beginnings, born to peasant parents. He was orphaned and left to the devices of his fate. He struggled with substance abuse in his early youth and fell into a life of crime. When he couldn’t bear the burden of his troubles, he attempted to end his life three times, but fate had other plans for him and he survived and later became a source of spiritual guidance for thousands.

In 1957, he fell ill and was hospitalized in Mombasa. The doctors had very little hope of his survival. The nurses of the Osborn Crusade intervened and took him to T.L. He miraculously recovered, heard about Jesus for the first time, and accepted salvation. This pivotal moment shaped the rest of his life, and went on to become one the most influential spiritual guide in Kenya and Uganda.
