On Saturday, August 5, 2023, Twitter user @c*ckfights posted a message: “Joe Rohan, RIP. dead at the age of 55. #RIP #JoeRogan, you left us far too soon.”

The query “Is Joe Rogan dead?” recently spread like wildfire over the internet, primarily due to a false tweet. Joe Rogan is still alive as of September 2023.

How did the Death Rumors Spread?

Many online users were perplexed by the death hoax and concerned for the 55-year-old’s wellbeing. It all started on April 7, 2022, when a Twitter account made an unfounded claim on the death of the prominent American comedian, UFC commentator, and podcast presenter, leading to a web of false information about him.

A tweet sent in April 2022 by the Joe Rogan Headquarters account, @joerohanhq, said the UFC commentator had died and added:

“He passed away quietly at home this afternoon; in accordance with the wishes of his family, we’ll let you know when more information becomes available.”

The allegations, however, were quickly refuted. A rumor about the UFC commentator’s death surfaced on Twitter less than six months later, on September 19, 2022, when an old tweet alleging that he had passed away surfaced.

Shortly after, the hashtag #RIPJoeRogan became popular on the microblogging platform. Rogan made no remarks regarding the rumors, and he tweeted frequently and even posted updates to his show.

Many people were shocked by the tweet’s astounding popularity before realizing it was a scam. This instance highlights the dangers of false information in the modern era. The unquestionably harmful tweet was removed, and the offending account was suspended.

However, its repercussions spread panic and bewilderment. Joe Rogan is not dead, disproving the hoax. This terrible case of disinformation proves why information should always be verified before being shared. Joe Rogan is still a well-known icon as of September 2023, inspiring and entertaining audiences worldwide.
