Canadian politician passed away at 72 surrounded by loved ones.
Lloyd Patrick Hines, a Canadian politician, passed away in Nova Scotia on September 10, 2023. He was a former member of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party.
Who was Lloyd Hines?
He was a Canadian politician based in Nova Scotia. He dedicated his life to serving his community in several Municipal capacities. He volunteered in many organizations and served on many boards.
He was on the first Guysborough County District School Board in 1982, where he served for four years. He began his political career in 1988 when he was elected to the Council of the Municipality District of Guysborough County.
He became the Warden in 1997 and served 16 years as a warden. In 2013, Lloyd was elected to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly as a member of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party. Lloyd was appointed as Minister of Natural Resources in the Executive Council of Nova Scotia in 2015. He was elected again in 2017 and served as Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal until 2021.
Everyone who knew him had tremendous esteem for him. He loved to serve his nation. He made his contribution to the progress of his community. He played a huge part in many projects that ensured the community’s well-being and progress. He was very proud of his contribution to constructing a bridge (Mira Gut Bridge) that brought together the community.
He was a husband and a father. He graduated from Baddeck High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature at St. FX University. He continued learning with courses like UCCB and SMU at the University de Moncton and Queens.
Aside from learning, serving his community in the municipality and being devoted to his loving family, Lloyd greatly loved art and culture. He loved music and had a huge collection of records.
The Municipality of District Guysborough released a statement regarding the late former Warden Lloyd’s death. The Warden Vernon Pitts said
“On behalf of Council and Staff of the Municipality of the District of Guysborough, we offer our deepest condolences to Lloyd’s wife Patricia and his children Shannon, Sarah, Victoria, and Regan as well as his grandchildren, family and friends. Lloyd was deeply respected, and it is with heartfelt grief and a sense of great loss that that we mourn the passing of Lloyd as our leader, colleague, and friend. We will always hold his memory in our hearts!”
Obituary and funeral
His obituary has been released. The Visitations will be on Thursday, September 14, 2023, between 4 pm and 6 pm, at DesBarres Manor, Guysborough, and the funeral will be on Friday, September 15m, 2023, at 1 pm at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Guysborough, followed by a reception at 3 pm at the Chedabucto Lifestyle Complex on 60 Green Street.
His colleagues and friends have extended their support to the loved ones in this crucial time. They have shared their memories of Lloyd and their huge respect for him. They have nothing but words of comfort for the family and praise for their late colleague.

I am deeply sad to learn of Lloyd’s passing. He was a true gentleman and the strongest advocate for the people of Guysborough County.”

“I am beyond saddened to hear of my good friend and former colleague Lloyd Hines’ passing yesterday.
No one knew this better than his wife Patricia and their kids. My heart goes out to them and the great loss they are feeling today.
The province is a bit darker today for us all.”
