Tragically, her life was cut short before realizing her dream of becoming a doctor. Her sudden, untimely death has left family and friends grieving and the community shocked. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
Who was Ana Diederich?
Ana Deiderich was a bright young woman. She graduated from Oakcrest School, Virginia. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering with a concentration in Biomolecular Engineering from the University of Notre Dame in 2021.
After graduating, she decided to give back to society and joined Oakcrest School as a teacher, where she graduated from. She taught AP Calculus AB and BC to young aspiring students. In her own words, she said, “I decided to come back and teach at Oakcrest because I had realized during my time at University what an impact Oakcrest had on my intellectual and moral formation.” She credited the school for her love for math and science and the confidence she gained at an all-girls School, having been judged based on her abilities rather than gender.
She was an aspiring doctor. She scored in the top 97 percent in the MCAT and joined the University of Virginia. She was in her first year at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. She wanted to become a cardiologist. Sadly, the cruel life never gave this brilliant young woman a chance to live her dream.
What happened to Ana Diederich?
According to a post on social media by her uncle, Kip Wilkowski, she collapsed while working at her college gym. A health professional at the gym attempted to revive her, but she passed away. The post read,
“Less than two days ago, my family received the news that I wished no one. My precious niece collapsed while working out at her college gym, and the health professionals at the gym could not revive her. Our beautiful, intelligent child of Christ was gone in an instant. I have felt pain in my life from losing loved ones, but nothing compares to the loss of a young person who was healthy and in the prime of her life.”
A GiveSendGo fundraiser has been organized to help the family cover the unexpected funeral and burial expenses.
Several unconfirmed reports say she died in a vehicle accident after a 40-year-old man, James Robert Allen of Suffolk attempted to abduct her. The confusion arose as a man named James Robert Allen of Suffolk was arrested and charged on Thursday, October 5, 2023, with attempting to kidnap a University of Virginia student. The Judge, Andrew Sneathern, said, “I am not going to set the bond. I am going to hold you without.”
She was saved by the help of a UVA professor, Robert Emery, who heard her screams and attempted to rescue her with the help of his family. According to the reports, the young woman struggled with the criminal, possibly from a moving vehicle, upon which he threw her. Emery and his family helped her and called the authorities. The authorities responded swiftly and transferred her to the hospital for treatment. The identity of the UVA student was not released in the case.
