A deadly crash on Highway 47 near Forest Grove claimed the life of a 44-year-old man on Sunday afternoon, October 8, 2023, according to the Oregon State Police.

Initial investigation revealed that a 70-year-old woman, Emily Simora of Beaverton, was driving a

Toyota C-HR. She stopped on Spring Hill Road facing westbound and turned southbound onto Highway 47. The vehicle entered the path of a northbound BMW motorcycle and resulted in a side-impact collision.

The Bike was being ridden by a 44-year-old male, identified as Chris William Garfield of Forest Grove, and had a juvenile female passenger.

According to the officials, Garfield was pronounced dead at the scene, and the young passenger sustained unspecified injuries and was transferred to a local hospital for treatment.
Emily Simora, the driver of the Toyota, was not injured.

The Highway was closed for about three hours for on-scene investigation. The Oregon State Police was assisted by the Gaston Fire Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Forest Grove Police Department, and Oregon Department of Transportation. An investigation is underway to learn more about the circumstances which led to the accident.

The harrowing incident emphasizes the importance of road safety. With caution, Chris William Garfield could have avoided death in the accident. The Forest Grove community mourns the loss of its cherished member. The gathering took to social media to express their grief and distress over losing a beloved member of society. They have also demanded justice and appealed to the authorities to charge the vehicle driver with reckless driving. However, the Police have not concluded their investigation and did not announce any charges being filed against the driver after the preliminary examination.
