Dejah Hood, the missing 18-year-old woman, was found dead near the Tyler apartment complex on Tuesday afternoon.

Dejah Hood, a young woman, was reported missing in the early morning on Tuesday. Her family reached out to the community to help find their missing daughter. They started the #HelpBringDejaHoodHome campaign on social media. The flyers read the description of Dejah Hood and what she was wearing when she went missing.

She was last seen on September 25 at Hollytree Apartments wearing a pink bonnet, tan top, rose gold tights, and black slide. She had brown eyes and black hair. She was 5 feet and 7 inches tall and 160 lbs. in weight. She was 18 years old.

The Police department filed a missing person report on Dejah Hood on Tuesday morning around 12:40 a.m. The Police started an investigation, which led them to the apartment complex where she was last seen alive with a man.

According to the Tyler Police Department Public Information Officer Andy Erbaugh, while at the apartment complex, investigating the missing person case, one of the officers of the Tyler Police Department located the dead body of a woman wrapped in a cloth in a wooded area behind the apartment building. The woman was identified as Dejah Hood. The authorities notified her family immediately.

Dejah Hood was found dead in a creek bed behind one of the buildings at the Hollytree Apartments in Tyler around 1 p.m. on Tuesday. The Police remarked that foul play was involved based on the evidence they collected at the scene, and the incident was ruled homicide.

Tyler Police Department Public Information Officer Andy Erbaugh told the media,

“The last place she was seen here at this apartment with a male,” he continued, “We got conflicting stories from the man where he last saw her. So, we came out here to investigate. The family had been out here. We were out here a couple hours when one of our sergeants found a body behind this building behind me wrapped in cloth.”

On Tuesday night, the Tyler Police Department identified the man who was suspect in the crime. The man’s name is Jamaurea Jermaine Britton, a 19-year-old resident of Tyler. According to the Police, he picked her up and brought her to the building. She was last seen alive with him, and he had conflicting statements, further solidifying the suspicion. A murder warrant was issued in his name, and he was arrested and held at Smith County Jail on a $1,000,000 bond.

The Police requested the community to come forward with any information regarding the homicide and contact the Tyler Police Department at 903-531-1000.
