Who was Donald Young?
Donald Young was a deacon and a choir director at the Trinity United Church of Christ for two decades. It is a very high-profile African-American church. The former president, then-senator Barack Obama, attended that church. Young was also a fifth-grade teacher at Guggenheim Elementary School. Young had just acquired a double master’s in early childhood and math. He had ambitions to become a principal.
Young was a man of faith. He was the fourth of eight siblings. He lived every day to its fullest. Young taught his class compassionately and conducted choir with love and harmony every Sunday. He had a musical talent, which he combined with his faith and directed harmonious choirs.
He joined the church when he was 12 years old, and according to Reverend Jeremiah Wright, a pastor at the Trinity United Church of Christ, he was not brought there because of his parents. Still, Young went there because of the other children and became active in the church.
He was loved by all who knew him.
What happened to Donald Young?
He was shot in the head. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds, according to the authorities. Young’s roommate discovered his body when he came home at about 7:30 in the morning. Some Christmas presents and jewellery were also missing from the house, indicating that the robbery had gone wrong. But the police made their investigations and ruled his death as a homicide. The roommate was initially speculated as being a suspect. The roommate was cooperative in the investigation.
No further information has come to light since then. Young’s death remains a mystery. He fell victim to a heinous crime in his own house. His loved ones are still waiting for justice to be served to whoever inflicted such unbearable pain on their souls. After more than a decade, the murderer is still at large.
Young was supposed to conduct the choir at the service Sunday morning but never showed. The officials at the church were informed of his untimely demise during an early service at the church, and the announcement of his departure was made at a later service.
He was a gentle soul with a passion for soulful music and a drive to guide the younger generation into the light of faith. Yet someone with so much hate in his heart bound his soul for eternal darkness by committing the unforgivable act against a man of gleaming faith.
Tributes
Donna Hammond-Miller, a close friend, said about Young,
“He was a person who believed in loving people with God love. A love that a lot of us don’t have, agape love, unconditional love,”
The Reverend Jeremiah Wright of Trinity unity church of Christ said,
“He was one of those success stories, the average person would look at and say he doesn’t have a chance,”
On another occasion, he said, “lived and breathed music”.
