John Schmidt unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2023. The details surrounding John Schmidt’s death are unknown; no official statement regarding his cause has been made public.
John Schmidt was regarded as one of the best athletes in the city. He completed secondary school at F.J. Brennan Catholic High School Alumni, where he excelled in track and field and football, earning two all-city honors.
Following high school, he transferred to Western Mustangs on the 401, where he was a standout track athlete who won the Purple Blanket in 1983 and the All-Canadian title in the hurdles in 1984.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus during his pre-high school years and has multiple records. After graduating from Western, John was well-respected in his area and went on to teach at Brennan, his Alma institution.
The New Seminole Street Bar & Grill confirmed his death news through a Facebook post, which stated:
“He had the most heartfelt personality, entire of stupid inquiries. Whenever I met him, he constantly asked about the boys and seemed genuinely interested in my life. He would ogle their photos, their achievements, and my parenting style.
And as always, he wanted to know your favorite “after-bar food.” Years ago, I lost track of how often I heard him pose that question to folks. Friend or stranger, it made no difference. After a night of drinking, he wanted to know if you got takeout or went home to make toast. I hope this meniscus makes you proud, Schmidt. This one’s for you. Peacefully rest, my friend.”
He left by leaving his loved ones in shock and grief; since learning of his passing, many of his friends have sent their sincere condolences to John Schmidt’s family, honoring him and sharing their most treasured memories of him.
Thoughts and Condolences to his family, friends, and community in this trying time; John’s funeral and burial customs have not been disclosed yet. Prayers for him; Rest in Peace, John Schmidt.
