Krystian Magretta, an 8th-grade student at Orchard Park Middle School in New York, allegedly committed suicide on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, leaving friends, classmates, and family aggrieved. Community mourns beloved teenager who reportedly ended his life. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
His aunt, Nicole Martinez, has organized a GoFundMe page to help the family with the unexpected cost of funeral arrangements and also appealed to the world to contribute to the fundraiser in a post on social media that said,
“This is my nephew!!! My heart is broken!! Please feel free to share and help my family through this difficult time. We appreciate anything anyone can do! Our lives will never be the same!! We all love you so much Krystian and will miss you dearly!!”
She also described Krystian Magretta as a kind, respectful, well-mannered, loving and caring soul who will forever live on in their hearts. He had just turned 13 and started 8th grade. The family is devastated beyond measure by their inconsolable loss.
A Ukrainian-born former prosecutor, business owner, and political candidate, Florina Altshiler, from Orchard Park Town Board, has expressed her grief over the saddening news in a post on social media that said,
“We are shocked and deeply saddened by the news of the sudden passing of an 8th-grade student, Krystian Magretta. Anytime a young person is suddenly lost, it is a tragedy beyond words that impacts the entire community. My thoughts and prayers are with Krystian’s family, friends and the community during this difficult time.”
The Orchard Park School system has offered support for the grieving students. A support centre was available for students who lost their classmate in the Middle School Library on Thursday afternoon, October 5, from 4 to 6 p.m. A list of grief support resources can also be found on the School’s website.
Krystian A. Margretta passed away on October 4, 2023. Legacy.com released his funeral and memorial services on social media on Oct. 7, 2023.
Visitation will be held on October 9, 2023, from 1:00 – 6:00 PM at Lombardo Funeral Home (Southtowns Chapel), located at 3060 Abbott Rd. A prayer service will be conducted at 4:00 PM at the exact location. The interment will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery. To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
The tight-knit community of Buffalo and Orchard Park has shown the grieving family outpouring support. They have contacted the family and offered them their condolences and prayers.
They have also generously donated to the fundraiser that has raised over 32,000 dollars in two days. The heartbroken family will never fully recover from the devastating loss, but they might find some comfort in the overwhelming support of the community.
