The community of Chatham mourns their beloved Executive Director, Mary Cavanaugh.
Mary Cavanaugh, Executive Director at Chatham Chamber of Commerce, passed away unexpectedly in Massachusetts.
Mary was a dedicated community member of Chatham, a seaside town south of Cape Cod in Massachusetts. The city is known for its beauty and beaches, especially Lighthouse Beach near a 19th-century Chatham Lighthouse.
The Town of Chatham shared a post on their social media paying tribute to the late Mary Cavanaugh. They had nothing but respect for her. It said,
“On behalf of the Select Board, Town Manager Jill Goldsmith, and Town staff:
We are deeply saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Mary Cavanaugh, Executive Director of the Chatham Chamber of Commerce.” It continues, “Her love for Chatham was evident in her enthusiasm for promoting local businesses and events in her professional capacity and personal interactions as a resident. She brought a light to every room she entered and will be missed by many.
At the most difficult time, we offer our deepest condolences to her family and friends.”
Mary fell in love with the town and its beauty. She dedicated her life to serving the community in the city. She served as Executive Director of the Chatham Chamber of Commerce.
Her tireless work was commendable during the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, when the business community suffered a massive blow due to quarantine. She played a vital role in solidifying and maintaining a constructive relationship between the business community and the town’s government.
Mary placed a great value on cultivating inter-division trust and mutual respect by involving the Select Board and Town Manager in ribbon-cutting ceremonies for new businesses in town.
Early life and career
Mary grew up in Walpole, Massachusetts. She spent summer vacations in Chatham since 1982 and was familiar with its surroundings, New England. She owned a home in Chatham since 2003, and she moved to Chatham from Chicago with her family in December 2010.
Mary studied Marketing at the University of Massachusetts. She worked in computer sales and recruiting for ten years. After that, Mary sold real estate in Oak Park, Illinois. She has built and renovated three homes and managed three rental properties
in the last fifteen years.
Her friends and loved ones describe Mary as a bright sunshine lighting the room. She was an energetic, hardworking individual who worked tirelessly to build strong ties with the community of Chatham and its government bodies. She was respected by all who knew her.
Obituary and funeral
Her family shared the tragic news of her departure from the world on social media. The family will share the details of her funeral at a later date. Her family is currently healing from their immense loss. All are requested to respect her family’s mourning and allow them the time to recover from their loss with dignity and grace.
Friends of the family have outpoured support for them in their grief. They have offered overwhelming support and prayers for the family, who will forever miss Mary dearly.
