As per law enforcement officials, five persons were fatally shot in the Richards Bay CBD parking lot on Wednesday, September 20, 2023.

According to preliminary findings, four suspects exited a car and started shooting at the victims. Four victims were pronounced dead at the site, while the fifth victim later died from gunshot wounds at a nearby hospital.

His death was confirmed through several posts on social media; Hustle Without Borders wrote on Facebook that:

“Nkululeko Mkhize, a feared “businessman” from Richards Bay, was shot and killed. At Zimbali Estate, north of Durban, he was shot and killed yesterday afternoon. He reportedly passed away in a shootout with the SAPS National Intervention Unit when it raided the estate in search of him.”

The suspects drove away from the crime site in a blue VW Polo. Although a drug-related war could not be ruled out, the shooting’s reason has not been determined. The infamous Richards Bay businessman Nkululeko Mkhize and his goons were found to be responsible for the massacre on Wednesday.

A fatal occurrence took place at North of Durban, in Estate Zimbali. It appears that he was shot to death when the South African Police Service’s National Intervention Unit searched the estate for him.

Mkhize was charged with having connections to a drug cartel. Mkhize garnered media attention in 2021 when he presented an R1.5 million cash gift at an indigenous bridal shower (commonly known as an “indicia”) in Ulundi.

As far as we know, one of our residents was entangled in a legal dispute. Francois Schoeman, CEO of Ballito Estate, commented following the incident, “It’s a comfort that our estate is now free from such elements. More than a thousand rounds of ammunition and six firearms were discovered at the scene, according to police spokesman Colonel Robert Netshiunda.

Police located the individuals they think were responsible for the murders in Richards Bay on Tuesday using information from several sources. They were met with bullets from the invaders as soon as they entered the residence.

Two suspects, including Mkhize, were slain after the police responded. The Independent Police Investigative Directorate, or IPID, has been asked to investigate. Continued is the hunt for any more suspects.

Thoughts and Condolences to Mkhize’s and other victim’s families. His funeral and burial details have not been released publicly.
