Bedminster, New Jersey:  Crash investigations in Somerset County left Interstate 78 closed in both directions on Thursday, December 21, 2023.

What happened at I-78?

According to the reports, an accident happened on I-78 at Milepost 30 in Bedminster Township. As a result, all lines were closed to conduct a thorough investigation to learn about the circumstances which led to the crash.

According to the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s 511NJ
website, all eastbound side lanes were reopened at 2:15 p.m. in the area of Exit 26 for County Route 665/Rattlesnake Bridge Road in Bedminster Township, while all the westbound lanes remained closed.

Due to heavy traffic and limited access to the lanes, there was a 40 to 45-minute delay on I-78. Heavy traffic was also observed on I-287 northbound Route 202 (Bridgewater Twn) to Exit 21- I-78 (Bedminster Twn). All lanes were open due to delays on I-78, reportedly a 20-25-minute delay.

Was anyone hurt in the I-78 accident?

The law-enforcement agencies have not released the details of the accident at the moment. It is unclear if there were any causality due to the accident. The identities of the victims involved in the accident have not been released. The number of vehicles involved in the cash is also unknown at the moment.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation’s 511NJ website has notified on their website that the event has been cleared, and all lanes on I-78 are open to traffic.
