South Dakota: A deadly ATV accident left one dead and one critically injured
Sophie O’Connor, a Washington High School graduate, and her boyfriend, Cole Milliron, were met with a tragic ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle) accident. Both were severely injured in the accident. They were transported to the hospital, where Sophie O’Connor succumbed to her injuries and died on Thursday, June 1, 2023. Cole Milliron was in critical condition but survived the accident.
Who was Sophie O’Connor?
Sophie Elizabeth O’Connor was a bright young woman who had her whole life ahead of her. She was born on September 16, 2004, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Dennis and Kristine O’Connor. She had just graduated from Washington High School with a GPA of 4.0 and was a dancer at Champion Dance Academy.
She had plans to attend the University of South Dakota for business in the fall. She was a dedicated student and a multitalented individual. She dazzled everyone on her dance and cheer teams and secured herself a place as a two-time State Champion.
She was a bright young woman with an infectious smile who lit up every room she walked in. Her family describes her in her obituary as a ‘vibrant spirit.’ She found peace and joy in simple things in life, such as sunsets. She was a loyal friend and a confidant. Everyone trusted her with their secrets and never let them down. She was warm, generous, and kind.
What happened to Sophie O’Connor?
Sophie O’Connor met with a tragic ATV accident on May 28, 2023, along with her boyfriend, Cole Milliron, also a graduate of Washington High School, one year before her graduation. The details of the accident have not been made public.
However, the tragic accident left both of them in critical condition. She received a severe brain injury in the accident. According to her family, she received a massive stroke, which caused irreparable damage to the left side of her brain, and she had a severely damaged brain stem.
She died on June 1, 2023, after losing the fight for her life. Cole Milliron was in critical condition but survived the accident. Ever so kind, Sophie’s last act on the earth was donating her organs. “This gives us peace knowing that she will be able to give several people and families a better life,” her family said.
Obituary and Funeral
Sophie’s obituary was released on the Heritage Funeral Home website. Her loved ones said their final goodbyes to her on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She was buried at Springdale Cemetery, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
