A Southeastern Louisiana University student died on Wednesday afternoon, November 29, 2023, on campus, prompting heavy police presence. The University released a statement to announce the tragic news and offer condolences to the family and friends.
What happened at Southeastern Louisiana University?
A Southeastern Louisiana University (SLU) student died on campus on Wednesday, November 29, 2023.University Police to an ‘active incident’ at the University’s Biology building on the southern side of the campus. The tragic event unfolded around 2 p.m. The officials sent a text alert to the Southeastern community, informing them to avoid going to the area until the emergency responders cleared the scene and assured them there was no threat to their safety.
Shortly after 4 p.m., the University officials informed the students that the Police had left the scene; however, the Biology building will remain closed throughout the day and reopen on Thursday.
The University Released a Statement
The University released a statement following the death of a student on campus. The statement said,
“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of one of our students. Our thoughts, prayers, and deepest condolences are with his family and friends at this difficult time. We ask for respect for the privacy of family and friends of this student.
As a valued member of the Southeast family, we know the loss is being felt by many, and we are doing everything we can to support friends, family, and the wider student and staff community.”

In the wake of this heart-wrenching event, the University has offered to help the affected students and faculty cope with the tremendous loss through its counseling services. They have urged everyone affected by the incident to reach out without hesitation and seek professional help to process the complex emotions emanated by the tragedy.
