The Lakeshore Canadiens hockey team mourns the loss of its beloved member.
Sylvain Lessard, a Lakeshore Canadiens hockey player, died in a deadly two-vehicle accident on Tuesday, October 24, 2023. The driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident received life-threatening injuries. Our thoughts and prayers are with both of the victim’s family and friends. We sincerely hope the other victim survives his injuries.
What happened to Sylvain Lessard?
He was involved in a two-vehicle crash which claimed his life. According to the Ontario Provincial Police, the crash happened around 9:20 p.m. on Tuesday, when an SUV collided with a transport truck on County Road 42, west of Patillo Road in Lakeshore, Ontario, Canada.
Lessard was the driver of the SUV and was pronounced dead at the scene. The tractor-trailer driver was transferred to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. There were no passengers in either vehicle.
An investigation is underway to learn more about the circumstances that led to the tragic accident. The authorities requested anyone who might have witnessed the crash to contact the Lakeshore OPP detachment and provide information.
The Lakeshore Canadiens Hockey team announced his death in a post on social media. The team said they were ‘deeply saddened’ by the passing of Sylvain Lessard. They paid tribute to their late teammate and offered their thoughts and prayers to his family and many friends.
Who was Sylvain Lessard?
Sylvain Lessard was a 20-year-old hockey player on the Lakeshore Canadiens Hockey team. The Canadiens say Lessard was a highly skilled player. He had played minor hockey in the Windsor AAA system. He played two years of Junior B with the Leamington Flyers. Last year, he joined the PJHL with the Wheatley Sharks, where he produced excellent offense numbers. He had only joined the Canadiens recently, where, according to the team officials, he immediately made an impact on and off the ice.
The team described Lessard as a great teammate and a joy to be always around. They said his infectious smile and pleasant conversation will be missed.
In the light of this tragic event, the Lakeshore’s game against the Dresden, originally scheduled for Wednesday night, has been postponed.
Lessard was a 2021 graduate of Ecole Secondaire Catholique I’Essor in Tecumseh. The School also posted a message on social media expressing condolences.
