Deadly car accident claims the life of a Purdue University student, Travis Ely; College fishing community mourns

Travis Ely, a Purdue University student from Nashville, Indiana, died in a deadly car accident on Monday night, October 16, 2023. Travis was a proud member of the Purdue University fishing community. College fishing community mourns the loss of its cherished member. Travis lost his life in a tragic car accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends.
Who was Travis Ely?
Travis Ely was a native of Nashville, Indiana. He was a student at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. He was a member of the Purdue University Fishing Team. He had just competed in an ACA fishing event-Collegiate Bass Championship. He earned a notable 35th place out of 248 boats and solid team points at the @collegiatebass Aftco Open on Lake Dardanelle.
Bass Pro Shops Collegiate Bass Fishing Series expressed their sorrow for a beloved community member’s death in a social media post. The post read,
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of Travis Ely and Hunter Heckman. As we know more information, we will share it with all the angling community members. Once again, please keep those affected in your prayers in this difficult time.”
He is described by all those who had the privilege to know him as friendly and warm. He was kind and generous, with a fantastic sense of humour. His untimely death has left a void in the lives of all those who loved him.

The fishing community mourns the death of its cherished members. The community members have requested the competition organizers to reconsider the Saturday-Sunday tournaments, as many participants have died in accidents while returning to their respective locations.
Many fishing teams offered condolences and paid their respects on social media, including Northwest State University Fishing Team, Indiana University Fishing Team, University of Rio Grande Fishing, and Missouri State Fishing Team. The Purdue Fishing Team thanked everyone for their overwhelming prayers and love.
