Smith was born on July 6, 2011; he was a grade 7 student at Biloxi Junior High School and died at the age of 12-years-old. Tritian’s untimely demise left the community in mourning and grief.
The preliminary investigation showed that Smith and his friends were attempting to cross Lamey Bridge Road near the C-Store in the direction of Academy Sports when a Jeep driving in the other order hit him.
Police and firefighters were dispatched to the site of a pedestrian accident immediately. An off-duty nurse came to help first responders start life-saving procedures as soon as they arrived.
D’Iberville Police officer took Smith to Merit Health Biloxi Hospital, taking a nurse and a firefighter with the victim to continue performing life-saving procedures.
Smith passed away from blunt force trauma despite many efforts and succumbed to the injuries sustained at the hospital on Monday morning, according to Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer.
D’Iberville and Biloxi police departments are investigating the incident but say no charges are currently anticipated. Further investigations are still in process.
Thoughts and Condolences to his family and close companions. Tristian’s funeral and burial customs have not been disclosed publicly.
Janeta Garver has created a GoFundMe page on behalf of the Smith Family for Tristan’s funeral services; she wrote in a statement that:
“I’m Janeta Garver. My cousin, who tragically lost her youngest son, Tristan, in a vehicle accident, is the beneficiary of this campaign I am organizing. He was hit by a car in the parking lot at the mall. I hope this may ease the family’s financial load during this sad time.
As most people don’t plan for this, especially for someone so young, I am only asking for money to pay funeral costs and time off work for Mom to grieve. Tristan had a long life ahead of him at just 12 years old. The family will be grateful for anything as we try to lessen the load a catastrophe like this imposes.”
The campaign has started to earn $10,000 goals, and the page has raised $1,950; anyone who wants to donate can donate their funds directly and help the Smith family in this difficult time.
Prayers for the Young boy; Rest in Peace, Tristan Smith.
