Who was Yifan Liu?
Yifan was a postdoctoral student at ETH Zurich for six months before her death. Her friends describe her as a positive and joyful person. She was a bright young woman, full of potential, with a bright future ahead of her. Sadly, her time on earth was cut short when she ended her life. She had quit her teaching position to work with Fishe Yu. She was a member of the PUA community, which stands for Physics And Astronomy, for six months.

She took her life on Tuesday, September 12, 2023. Unconfirmed reports say she jumped off a building to end her life. Her peers described her as a joyful, spirited woman. Her suicide proves something distressed her so much that she committed suicide. Unconfirmed reports allege she was sexually assaulted by an assistant professor at ETH Zurich, Fisher Yu.
She left her teaching position to start her academic journey at ETH in March this year and joined Fisher Yu’s Team.
Fisher Yu’s name has been associated with rumors involving his mistreatment of students by writing negative remarks and having inappropriate relationships with female students. His performance in the PUA community was deemed poor. The incident and rumors leading to the suicide have cast a cloud of judgment on the academic environment provided to the students at ETH.

Who is Fisher Yu?
Fisher Yu is a professor of Computer Vision at ETH Zurich. He completed his doctoral studies at Princeton University. He furthered his research as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of California, Berkeley. He is an assistant professor at ETH Zurich.
At ETH Zurich, Fisher Yu is in charge of the Visual Intelligence and System Group under the umbrella of the Computer Vision Lab. His task is to create perceptual systems that can execute complicated tasks under challenging conditions. His area of expertise includes robots, computer vision, and machine learning, concentrating on bridging the gap between strategic planning and operational execution.
