In a tragic incident in County Armagh, the local GAA club secretary, Patrick Grimley, lost his life during a horrifying accident that took place overnight. This sad incident happened on Gosford Road in Markethill around 01:20 GMT on a Saturday.

Patrick Grimley, a Madden resident, was identified as the victim, and he was also the brother of Niall Grimley, a senior football player for Armagh. The collision resulted in Patrick’s passing at the scene due to the injuries he sustained.
Patrick had been the secretary of the Madden GAA club for the past five years and was a crucial and motivating figure. His dedication to improving the club, both on and off the field, was apparent in his tireless efforts and commitment.

Patrick Grimley, a devoted family man, left behind his wife Ciera and three children, and he was always there to support them in their various interests and endeavours. His love for the team and the club was well-known, and he also played a crucial role as the club’s secretary, particularly this year with the club draw.

About the incident
The PSNI (Police Service of Northern Ireland) spokesperson reported that at around 1:20 a.m. on Saturday, a four-vehicle crash occurred on Gosford Road in Markethill, resulting in the tragic loss of a man’s life.
Many people were sent to hospitals for treatment, and the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service responded promptly with multiple emergency ambulance teams. Nine more patients were transported to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast and Craigavon Area Hospital.
Drivers are advised to avoid the area and choose an alternative route since the road remains closed. The incident is under investigation by various agencies, including the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and the Police at the Incident Investigation Unit.
They appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant CCTV or dash cam footage to contact them at 101, mentioning reference 104 of 04/11/23. It has been reported that nine people suffered injuries, with some in critical condition, and they are receiving care at the Royal Victoria and Craigavon hospitals.
