Pedro Suarez-Vertiz passed away due to a heart attack on Thursday, December 28, 2023, according to the local Peruvian radio station RPP, which cited police sources. The singer/songwriter behind hits like “Los Globos del Cielo” has suffered from dysarthria due to a bulbar neuromuscular syndrome, a disease that makes it difficult to speak and breathe, which forced him to stop performing on stage for the last ten years.

The municipality of Miraflores confirmed the sad news of his untimely death and paid homage to the late artist in a post on social media that said,

“From the municipality of Miraflores, we regret the death of Pedro Martin Jose Maria Suarez-Vertiz Alva, a prominent resident of our district, musician, singer, composer, producer, and writer. Our deepest condolences go out to his relatives, family, and friends.”

Who was Pedro Suarez-Vertiz?

Pedro Martin Jose Maria Suarez-Vertiz Alva was born in the city of Callao, Peru, on February 13, 1969. He was a talented musician, singer/songwriter, and producer. He founded the band Arena Hash in the 80s and created his solo debut album in 1993 named No Existen (Tecnicas para Olvidar). His other noteworthy albums include Pontelo en la Lengua (1996), Degeneracion Actual (1999), Play (2004), Talk Show (2006), and Amazonas (2009).

He garnered widespread appreciation and fame with his hit singles such as “Los globos del Cielo,” which Billboard acknowledged as a timeless masterpiece of Spanish rock. His other popular songs include “Cuando pienses en volver,” “Cuentame,” and “Un vino, una cerveza.”

The talented musician was also loved by everyone for his humility, kindness, and warmth. Fellow Peruvian singer/songwriter described him as “witty, creative, and an absolute lover of guitars” in a post on social media in tribute to the late artist.
