It is heartbreaking news that a famous costume Designer has died at the age of 56. The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka costume designer Shawna Trpcic, nominated for an Emmy, passed away on 4 October.
Shawna worked in Hollywood’s famous web series Star Wars; she is one of Hollywood’s pre-eminent science fiction costume designers. Her friends and colleagues said she was creative and handled their work passionately.
Hollywood suffered a significant loss with the passing of Shawna; they lost a talented designer. Following the news of her passing, Shawna’s family, community, and fans are grieving; this has been a terrible week for the whole country.
Who was Shawna Trpcic:
Shawna was born on 18 October 1966. After graduating high school, Trpcic planned to become a truck driver, but her art teacher encouraged her to pursue art instead. She continued to study fashion at Otis College of Art and Design, where she spent her senior year working with Bob Mackie’s group.
She began her career as a wardrobe assistant on the 1990 movie Megaville and afterward worked on the films Toys and Red Shoe Diaries. She worked as a creative costume designer on numerous films. Trpcic auctioned off a few Firefly costumes that were part of her collection in December 2005. Many of the outfits were bought by fans who wore them to the San Francisco Browncoat Ball in 2006 in costumes.
Unfortunately, we do not have much information regarding her personal life. She was Christian, and the origin of her married last name is Croatian.

Shawna Trpcic Cause of Death:
According to Sarah, the daughter of Shawna, there is no specific cause of her death; Shawna died suddenly of an unknown cause in Palm Desert on Wednesday, a statement reported by a Hollywood reporter. Shawna died before her 57th birthday on 18 October.

I was wearing this Ahsoka inspired by Trpcic’s brilliant costume design when I learned she had passed. So tragic and unexpected. It’s painfully true what the Bible says in (James 4:14 that life is a vapor. It’s short, and there’s no way of knowing what will happen. While this truth is sad and scary, my morning devotions give me hope. I read (Psalm 23), “Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for Thou art with me.” Despite this unfair, unpredictable world, I have hope and find peace in the pain, knowing that God is with me. I pray for that peace for Shawna’s family and friends.”
